i made lavendar cookies today. i'd post a photo, but i can't find my camera again. this is an old recipe. it's from a great-grandmother of one of my sister's friends. which probably means it came from ohio, kentucky, west virginia. one of those. it's so good. the perfect cookie to accompany afternoon tea (earl grey with milk and sugar). heart-clogging recipe below:
1 c butter
1 c powdered sugar
1 c granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 c oil
1 tsp vanilla
4 1/2 c flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
2 1/2 tbsp lavendar flowers
the recipe came without any instructions, so your guess is as good as mine as to the order of mixing the ingredients. i did the following:
cream butter and sugars. add eggs, oil and vanilla and mix until smooth. in a separate bowl, mix with a wire whisk the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and lavendar flowers. add dry ingredients to wet and mix until a dough forms. roll dough into balls, place on silpat-lined cookie sheet and flatten with the bottom of a wet, sugared glass. bake in 350 degree convection oven for 12 minutes or until just slightly golden around the edges. enjoy.
That sounds yummy! Did you have lavender flowers hanging around your kitchen? Did you dry them from last summer or something? I am impressed! I toasted pumpkin seeds tonight, after we carved a jack-o-lantern. Buddy did the happy dance around the candle-headed man and talked to him like an old friend.

Oh I'm so excited. I have always had lavender and never known how to cook with it - What do you do with the flowers after you pick them?
Do you dry them out and then grind them up? Do you have to pick them in a certain season?
Thanks!

Common looking people are the best in the world: that is the reason the Lord makes so many of them. Do you agree?
