one way you can help

recently, kim brought to my attention a woman named alley*. alley is a young, pregnant mom to two boys, ages eight and two. she's blogging her life - leaving an abusive husband and living with her children in her father's home in kansas. she works nights, and she and her kids are still struggling to make ends meet. alley is facing pressure from her friends and her church to place her child with an adoptive family, though she desperately wants to parent. alley doesn't have anything that she'll need for the new baby and is working hard to pay off past debt so that she and her kids can move into a place of their own. kim suggested that we all pitch in to help her out.

i offered to lend a hand, and we came up with an idea. online baby shower. everyone has something to give - hand-me-down clothes and baby paraphernalia, a package of diapers, a can of formula, a gift card to a grocery store. there are a million and one things needed for a new household and a new baby. we had two baby showers thrown for us before zade came home and i think every expecting parent deserves one.

i generally try not to solicit on my blog, but i believe that supporting alley is the right thing to do. so i'm asking for your help. let's throw alley a baby shower like no other. here's what you can do to help.

buy a gift from the amazon.com registry i set up for alley
get her a gift card to w*l-m*rt for essentials like food, clothing, diapers
send alley a box of (good quality, no stains, etc.) your child's outgrown baby clothes
make her a gift using your crafty knowledge (knitting, quilting, sewing, etc.)
link to this post on your blog and encourage your readers to lend a hand!

just a suggestion....one way to help her out so she isn't so strapped for cash is to educate her on breast feeding, co sleeping and possibly cloth diapering. I will email you so I can get an addy of where to send some cloth dipes.

We are not a wealthy family. My husband makes only $10 per hour. We breast feed, co sleep and cloth diaper and I cannot even begin to imagine how much money we have NOT spent because of it.

I wandered over here from Jenna's blog and I'm going to help as well. Women should not have to place their children if they want to parent. No one should be pressured into this position.
